Requiem For The Living

“Magnificent, very cleverly constructed sound sculpture”

Saturday 30 June, 7:30pm

Christ Church Gosford Anglican Church 3 Mann Street Gosford

This concert continues the Central Coast Philharmonia’s commitment to bringing new and fresh compositions to local audiences while presenting traditional pieces from the likes of Bach, Mozart and Mendelssohn.

Requiem For The Living is a contemporary work written by American composer, Dan Forrest. According to Forrest, “There wasn’t any one particular event commemorated by this; rather, it’s written as a response to the problem of pain and sorrow that we all face at one time or another. Part of the human condition is that we all need a requiem (“rest”) sooner or later in this life. Accordingly, I’d like for my work to speak Christ’s words of comfort to all who are weary or hurting.”

Requiem For The Living was written in 2014 has been received great critical acclaim:

“Magnificent, very cleverly constructed sound sculpture” Classical Voice

“Superb writing… full of spine tingling moments” Salt Lake Tribune

This truly beautiful piece features, under the Artistic Directorship of Patrick Brennan, the Central Coast Youth Orchestra. In recent years Musical Director Philip Rees OAM has selected wonderful contemporary pieces from Alexander L’Estrange, Karl Jenkins and Eric Whittaker. On several occasions Central Coast audiences have been the first in Australia to hear these modern masterpieces. “Phil certainly has taken us on an amazing musical journey through familiar and unfamiliar territory.” says Philharmonia President, Duncan Waight.
The choir will be accompanied by a 16-piece orchestra, a brilliant young soloists Hannah Greenshields (pictured) and Jessica Carter as well as the current State Band Champions, the Wallarah Community Band conducted by Rowen McBride.
