The Gosford Community Precinct will be a hub of activity on 19 August 2017 when it opens its gardens & community organisations to the public from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Precinct representatives have joined together to present this Open Day, which will feature a diverse range of activities to whet the community’s appetite.
The Central Coast Handweavers, Spinners and Textile Artist Guild Inc. will present demonstrations showing spinning, weaving, patchwork, quilting, knitting, felting and crocheting. You are encouraged to come along to try your hand at these crafts. A fashion show featuring the work of members will be held at 1pm and should provide some of fun and laughter.
The Central Coast Potters Society Open Day is held in conjunction with the Australian Ceramics Open Studios weekend 2017. Each August hundreds of ceramic artists across Australia open their studios to the public that promises to be a celebration of clay, creativity and community. The event is hosted by The Australian Ceramics Association. At the Potters’ Workshop there will be wheel throwing, hand building, sculpture and decorating demonstrations, a children’s table where each child can make something. Adults will also have the opportunity to discover clay while trying your hand at wheel throwing and hand building. The pit will be opened at 2pm where a primitive firing has been done.
The Makers Studio will be demonstrating wood block and lino printing, and invites you to give it a go! There will also be tours of the printmaking studio where you can view and purchase art works produced by their members.
And last but not least, the Family History Society will be offering the opportunity to attend their regional seminar examining the records of returned soldiers from WWI, the physical & emotional impact of war, and resettlement schemes. Experts in their fields will be presenting on the day. The cost of the seminar is $20 and includes morning tea & lunch.
The Open Day is free why not bring your family and friends to enjoy a relaxed, fun time where you will be able to purchase beautifully crafted products and artworks. There will be a sausage sizzle, cakes, coffee & tea, and a raffle or three. Enquiries regarding membership to any of these organisations will be welcomed on the day.
