A report on WSC’s ART HOUSE presentation and comments on WYONG GROVE by Chris McClellan.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend the presentation WSC held about the Art House at Wyong Grove last Wednesday night, but Chris McClellan has kindly shared him impressions of the meeting. Many thanks, Chris. – Ed.

Hi

The Art House presentation (the main focus of the night) was around
the structure of the business and the hire costs. They described the
building in detail and spoke about what the hire fee includes and to
make sure “you come and talk to us” if the rates need to be
negotiated.  All hire rates include 3 staff, and all hires are 4hr
blocks. Council has received ministerial approval to create a not for
profit organisation to operate The Art House which will free
management to make quick decisions and tailor packages to suit the
hirer and not get bogged down in Council processes and published hire
rates.

Council will subsidise the operation by $1mill per year, but their
view is that it’s still viable in 50yrs time (although I think they
mentioned that the subsidy wouldn’t last that long).

The Council staff spoke about the auction of the Wyong Grove site
after they were prompted.

It felt like they wanted to talk about it, but were waiting for the
public to bring up the topic.  They explained that they had a lease
until May 2016, with a 1yr extension that they wanted to execute.
They have been trying to talk to Dept of Education (DET) for several
weeks, but no replies/contact.  They were trying to negotiate a 20yr
lease similar to The Entrance Public School and they are as surprised
as the general public about the auction sign and no contact from DET
at the same time.
